Please forgive my silence
As the water waved
Where the sea-level is love
And responses should be in kind
I could not sail my goodbye.
Instead,
Undecided, but never not moved
found myself splicing through shadows
away
from a shared starlight
Unannounced,
but never not leftover
Which is to say…
There,
My now-time absence
will
only
eventually
flow obvious.
The old discouragement from love-letter writing –
my young-time means of hyping the undertow –
Has further induced me to give up on the final word, too
One cannot speak to love
Much less speak for it
And yet,
at the tidal end
this no-end of no ends
is all that is left.
Desire to wave literally to the end
Through the clarity of a language
That could not –
with all the endlessness leased to coastlines –
but anticipate
the distance
of tomorrow.
Which is to say…
Absence
and its forever being-with-us
was
always
eventually
going to flow obvious.

As these waters wave
Where love is at sea
All responses in kind
(should be)
We will need love, above all
To forgive the silence
Overshadowing
the hopeful sunset
of these two words:
Good bye
Which is now to say…
Our love
would
only
eventually
flow obvious.
